So this is still not enough for working Samba. Rest is not exactly related to this ticket, but describes additional changes required at least in my environment to get Samba working in OpenWrt. See below entries from syslog after enabling DNS request logging feature of dnsmasq and restarting Samba.ĭec 12 02:02:01 OpenWrt dnsmasq : query lo from 127.0.0.1ĭec 12 02:02:01 OpenWrt dnsmasq : config lo is NODATA-IPv4ĭec 12 02:02:01 OpenWrt dnsmasq : query br-lan from 127.0.0.1ĭec 12 02:02:01 OpenWrt dnsmasq : config br-lan is NODATA-IPv4Ĭomparison of netstat -an output with just "|INTERFACES|" and "192.168.1.1/255.255.255.0 |INTERFACES|" in template:ĭefault, fails: interfaces = |INTERFACES| Samba seems to search network interface names via DNS which is bit odd. Without making this change there's still "WARNING: no network interfaces found" in /var/log/smbd.log and /tmp/log.nmbd. answering broadcasts, communicates correctly with other hosts based on tcpdump trace and is acting as master browser by making this change to smb.conf template. Running tcpdump shows that OpenWrt Samba is not participating on master browser election nor replying to broadcast packets when client searches for it. Samba is not visible on network but can be accessed using UNC path with IP address ( While smbd and nmbd start ok they both log "WARNING: no network interfaces found" message. With default "interfaces = |INTERFACES|" on config, which expands to "interfaces = lo br-lan", Samba only works partially.
